The NCAA’s all-time leading scorer, Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark broke that record at Iowa largely due to her three-point shooting ability. This has translated over to the WNBA, as Clark currently ranks fourth in the league in three-pointers made this season.
Joining Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese as the only other rookie on this year’s All-Star team, Clark will be in Phoenix this weekend for the festivities. When asked prior to Wednesday night’s game against the Dallas Wings about potentially participating in the WNBA three-point contest, Clark maintained that her focus is on this game.
"My focus is on this game tonight, and then we’ll turn to All-Star after that," Clark told reporters.
Not wanting to overlook Dallas and look ahead to All-Star weekend, Clark did not speak much on potentially participating in the three-point contest, but she also did not rule out the possibility. The WNBA’s biggest draw, Clark is certainly a player the league wants to feature as much as possible.
While Clark is shooting just 33.2% from three-point range this season, she takes a lot of high-difficulty three-point attempts, and does so with a lot of defensive attention focused on her.
It remains to be seen whether or not Clark will compete in the three-point contest, but she will be in Phoenix this weekend for the WNBA All-Star game. For now, the star rookie is focused on entering the break with a win over Dallas.
The Wings (5-19) enter this game with the league's worst record, while Indiana (11-14) currently own the WNBA's seventh seed. The top-eight WNBA teams make the playoffs regardless of conference.
