EMMET COUNTY — Voters in Emmet County will see a millage request for a fixed operating millage on the Aug. 6 ballot.

Since 2004, voters have approved a fixed operating millage for Emmet County, which includes 7.8 mills that are distributed amongst the county, townships and the Charlevoix-Emmet Intermediate School District. The millage is voted on every four years.

If approved Aug. 6, the millage will support the Emmet County Operating Services through 2028.

Through the millage, Emmet County would receive 5.6 mills, the townships would receive 2 mills and the ISD would receive 0.2 mills.

For the county, the millage helps fund the General Fund Operating millage, which services the sheriff's office, courts, planning and zoning, prosecuting office, the clerk, parks and recreation, administrative support services and more.

Through the millage, townships are able to fund operating expenses and road maintenance.

The ISD uses the millage funds to support general operating expenses, according to a press release from the county.

In the 20 years this millage has been levied, the millage rates have not changed.

The millage proposal will be on the ballot on Tuesday, Aug. 6.
