Mid-Missouri's favorite native vineyard earned statewide honors at the recent Missouri Wine Competition.

Rocheport's Les Bourgeois Vineyards won best of class in the sparkling wine category for its Brut. As one of 11 best of class awardees, Les Bourgeois qualified for the highest honor — the Governor's Cup — which ultimately went to Hermann-based Stone Hill Winery's 2022 Cross J Norton.

Les Bourgeois also earned gold medals for its Brut and Brut rosé; a total of 11 silver medals for various styles; and another four bronze medals.

The winery's Brut "highlights Missouri grown Vidal Blanc and is made in the méthode traditionnelle, demonstrating our Winemakers’ artistry and prowess," according to a post on its website. "The aromatic bouquet and crisp palate stun with fresh baked bread, apple, melon, white flowers, lemon curd, and black raspberry."

Longtime competition judge Cat Neville expressed the draw — and significance — of embracing Missouri wine in a news release.

"I can try wines from vineyards around the world, but this is my home, these are my neighbors, this is my community, and they are making world class products," Neville said.

Winning wines will be displayed at next month's Missouri State Fair, held Aug. 8-18 in Sedalia.
