Shelby County’s total gas well production for April ranked fourth among neighboring counties according to the Railroad Commission’s (RRC) monthly production statistics released July 10.

Shelby County’s 5,822,126 cubic feet ranked 32 out of all 254 counties.

Panola County was the top producer among neighboring county’s at 28,143,811 cubic feet and 8th statewide. San Augustine County ranked second and 16th reporting 16,676,755. Nacogdoches County ranked third and 18 th with 13,561,327 cubic feet. Rusk County was fifth and 40th at 4,043,246, and Sabine County was sixth and 56th at 1,745,799.

In crude oil production, Shelby County ranked third locally at 528 barrels. Rusk County was first at 86,073, Panola County second at 13,282, Nacogdoches County fourth at 414, San Augustine County fifth at 62 and Sabine sixth reporting no oil production.

The RRC also reports condensate production, a term used to describe a variety of very low-density, very low-viscosity, liquid hydrocarbons that typically occur along with natural gas. Condensates are reported in both barrels and cubic feet, but RRC figures did not note which was used for its report.

Panola County was first in local counties at 70,863, Rusk County second at 25,181, Nacogdoches County third at 2,518, Shelby County fourth at 1,508, and Sabine County at zero.

The Texas Railroad Commission is the state’s oldest regulatory agency. RRC members are Christi Craddick (chairman), Jim Wright (commissioner), and Wayne Christian of Center (commissioner).
