Still Going; slow moving cold front brings scattered showers again Thursday morning

Thursday morning, showers continues to push out of the region for a soggy morning but a drier afternoon. Those farthest southeast like Monroe and Giles counties will hold a better chance of showers into the afternoon. Those towards Nicholas and Fayette will start to see more sunshine as the day goes on. Highs are a cooler and more comfortable in the mid and upper 70s with lower humidity.
Tonight as high pressure and drier air moves in from the north, temps cool quickly. River valley fog spills over through the night with dense fog expected for the early morning commuters Friday. Overnight lows dip back into the 50s for a very comfortable night to hopefully give our overworked AC units a rest.
Friday the cooler trend continues as temps struggle their way into the upper 60s by midday and mid to upper 70s by the late afternoon. Most, if not all of us, remain dry through the daytime as temps slide closer to the 80 degree mark for our western counties, upper 70s for the mountains. As day turns to night, clouds thicken for our southern counties with a stray shower or two for the overnight the farter south you live. Overnight lows are cooler north with clearer skies in the mid 50s while our southern counites with more cloud cover stay closer to the 60 degree mark.
Saturday a few showers push north but more dry time between each round. A partly cloudy day allows some sunshine through to warm us back near average. Highs for the western side of the viewing area push into the low 80s while the eastern mountains hover in the upper 70s. A few valleys nudge 80 degrees. A pop-up rumble of thunder into the late afternoon is possible with isolated heavy rain for some.
Sunday, a similar set up to Saturday as temps rebound into the low 80s after a cooler morning. A passing shower or two with an isolated t-storm towards through the day may interrupt your outdoor events. Lows stay milder with extra cloud cover Sunday night with temps in the low to mid 60s. As our next system pushes closer, clouds increase Sunday night with showers arriving late into Monday morning.
Monday will be a split day, some will see sunshine while others get in on scattered showers from time to time. Our next system isn’t exactly well organized so the pattern of hit and miss showers continues. Temps vary a bit from the low 80s to the upper 70s depending on sunshine throughout the day. But overall, it’ll be a good idea to keep the umbrella close by for when that shower roams into your neighborhood.
Tuesday will be a day of increasing clouds with scattered showers into the afternoon and evening. We look dry enough to still reach the muggy mid 80s for highs. A late storm could be on the stronger side with winds being the main concern right now. We’ll keep you posted!
Wednesday again brings scattered showers late morning through the early evening hours. Not all will see rain, but those that do will certainly benefit with half to one inch of rain through the entire day. The breaks between showers will bring back that humid feel with temps nudging the low 80s.
In your extended forecast, a soggier pattern develops which will continue to help the July rainfall rates. Still about only half of normal and with June finishing out well below rainfall averages, we still have a ways to go before we call the drought over and done with.
