Collin Sexton Calls 2018 The GOAT NBA Draft Class

Collin Sexton was a guest on 'It Is What It Is' recently. Sexton was asked about where he thinks the 2018 NBA Draft class lands among some of the best recently. Sexton claimed that the 2018 class is the best ever, even putting the 2003 NBA Draft class ahead of the 1996 NBA Draft class, which many consider to be the best ever.

"We're (2018) the best draft class, for sure. Definitely got the most talent. Yeah, I think it's number one (ever). If you ask anybody, we got the best draft class... I would say the next one for me would be 2003... Just wait, we're still loading. For sure."

Sexton's confidence in his draft class is not unfounded. The 2018 NBA Draft Class has created some of the best young stars in the NBA. Some of the best players from the class include Luka Doncic , Trae Young , Shai Gilgeous-Alexander , Jalen Brunson , and Jaren Jackson Jr . All these players have made at least one NBA All-Star game.

Even outside of the All-Stars, there is a wealth of talented players in the class, including Collin Sexton, Mikal Bridges , Michael Porter Jr. , Donte DiVincenzo, Mitchell Robinson, and Bruce Brown. Many of these players have, or continue to play a key role on championship-contending teams

As for the 1996 NBA Draft class, it produced some all-time greats like Allen Iverson , Kobe Bryant , Ray Allen , Steve Nash , and many more. As things stand, they can and should be considered the best draft class ever. But once all the players from the 2018 NBA Draft class have called time on their careers, a re-evaluation might be warranted.

2018 vs. 1996 NBA Draft Class - Which One Is Better

As mentioned above, as things stand, the 1996 NBA Draft class will be considered better by most NBA fans. But the reason for that is, we still do not know how the careers of many of the players from 2018 will turn out. Players like Luka Doncic, Trae Young, and Jalen Brunson could end up having incredible careers when all is said and done.

Furthermore, the 1996 NBA Draft class was stacked, and fans knew ahead of time how great the players in the class would be. Those expectations were not levied on players in the 2018 NBA Draft class. For example, Allen Iverson was the consensus first-overall pick in the 1996 NBA Draft class.

Compared to 2018, Deandre Ayton was actually the consensus first-overall pick. And while Ayton has had a decent career so far, he doesn't compare to the stars in this class like Doncic and Young, who have made multiple All-Star and All-NBA teams in such a short span.

Perhaps when all is said and done, the 2018 NBA Draft class will boast players with several NBA championships, individual honors, and incredible careers that prove to be better than those from the 1996 class. But until then, it is difficult to say that the 2018 NBA Draft class is better.
