    PWCPD: Swim coach accused of sexually assaulting child during lessons in Woodbridge

    PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. ( DC News Now ) — A Prince William County coach is behind bars after he was accused of sexually assaulting a child during swim lessons in 2022.

    The Prince William County Police Department (PWCPD) said officers began investigating the case on June 22, 2024.

    During the investigation, officers learned the assault involved a child under 13 years old and took place at the Chinn Park Recreation Center, in Woodbridge, between April and May of 2022.

    The coach was identified as 72-year-old Daniel Smith, of Woodbridge.

    On July 14, Smith was arrested and charged with two counts of Aggravated Sexual Battery.

    He was being held without bond.

    Court records show Smith’s next court date is in August 2024.

    Prince William County police told DC News Now that there are no indications of additional victims at this time, but encourage anyone with information to come forward.
