DUBOIS COUNTY, Ind. (WEHT) – A girl at the Dubois County 4-H Fair falls off a ride, leading to an investigation.

Rides are suspended at the Dubois County 4-H Fair, but organizers say there are still plenty of events that community members can enjoy.

Indiana Homeland Security says the safety equipment on the ride “Rock and Roll,” which occasionally goes upside down, was not secured properly.

State law requires every amusement ride to be inspected at least once a year.

David Hosick, from the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, says “the ride had violations.”

The ride will not be allowed to be operated in the state until repairs are made, the owner has 30 days to comply and the ride can not be put back into service until it passes a state Homeland Security inspection.

The fair did not comment on the ride investigation, but says with or without rides, they are putting an emphasis on kids that have put effort into their 4-H projects.

“We want everybody to come out and see what the kids are doing. They’ve put a lot of time and effort into their projects,” says one member.

When talking about the sheep, Bella Buckman from Northeast Dubois High School, says, “We’ve been working them out and practicing showmanship before the fair. Whenever they were babies, we started practicing setting them up and things like that. For the last couple of months, we have been exercising them.”
