Former St. Tammany Parish secretary accused of stealing $25K from recreation district arrested

ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. ( WGNO ) — A former St. Tammany Parish employee has been arrested and is facing charges of theft.

St. Tammany Parish Sherrif’s Office deputies arrested 36-year-old Brittany Ward, former secretary of a local recreation district, on Wednesday, July 17. The arrest follows an investigation stemming from a January complaint of possible missing funds in the district’s account.

St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Financial Crimes Division detectives claimed that between March 2023 and December 2023, Ward allegedly wrote several checks to herself on the recreation district accounts, signing a board member’s name to them.

Additionally, deputies report she allegedly took cash from the concession stand deposits before taking the money to the bank.

Detectives say in total Ward allegedly took $25,277.

Ward reportedly turned herself in and was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center on charges of theft over $25,000 and forgery.
