YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — A man who was arrested on a gun charge in April by city police entered an intervention in lieu of conviction Wednesday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.

Jameer Weaver, 20, entered the plea before Judge John Durkin.

When a defendant enters such a plea, they plead guilty, but the guilty plea is not accepted by the judge. Instead, the defendant is given a plan for mental health or substance abuse treatment adopted by the court and if the defendant completes that plan, the charge is dropped.

Weaver was arrested April 16 with a handgun following a traffic stop by city police, reports said.
