Amazon Prime Day attracts millions of customers every year, who are seeking better prices on their favorite products. However, suspicious customers have questioned whether they are really getting a deal on the highly advertised day.

This year, some shoppers took to social media to warn others that the ‘discounts’ they think they are getting, might not be as great as they seem. In fact, some are calling the whole idea of Prime Day a ‘scam.’

After analyzing before and after prices of some products, shoppers noticed that many that contain the ‘Prime Day’ sticker are the exact same price as they were before. Others believe that some prices were recently marked up and then newly discounted for Prime Day , to make the discount seem bigger.

Amazon is the world's largest online retailer and marketplace by revenue and market share as of 2023. Their reputation as a reliable and trustworthy platform is a crucial part of their success.

A Reddit thread discussed this suspicion with users keeping a close eye on prices of their saved items before and after Prime Day.

@jade_star wrote: “It’s ridiculous. I had a sweater saved for later that was $39, today it was marked up to $65 with a Prime deal making it $39”

Amazon has not commented on the controversy. Prime Day officially ended yesterday, July 17.
