Randy Houser weighs in on Ingrid Andress' anthem performance

Days after Ingrid Andress’ less than desirable National Anthem performance at MLB’s Home Run Derby, Country stars are starting to weigh in on the presentation and aftermath.

Following her performance earlier this week, 32-year-old Andress posted to her Instagram account candidly telling fans she was drunk during her performance and planned to check into rehab that same day. “I’m not gonna bulls*** y’all, I was drunk last night,” she wrote. “I’m checking into a facility today to get the help I need.”

While she openly apologized to letting fans, MLB, and her country down in the same statement, some are still baffled by the performance, believing there was much more than alcohol to blame. Included in those people is Country singer-songwriter, Randy Houser .

“I’ve sang drunk many times and I’ve never sounded like that,” he told The Morning Wolfpack on Audacy’s 100.7 The Wolf before further detailing his disbelief in how wrong her performance went. “It’s an honor for someone to ask you to do that [sing the Anthem] to honor our country. You respect that. First of all, you don’t go get drunk before you sing the National Anthem — that’s just a matter of respect. And second, I don’t know how you screw it up like that .”

He continued, “That was really different. I’ve never seen her live, so I don’t know, but I do know I’ve been doing it a long time and I’ve never had a complete [mess up]. I don’t care if I’m blackout  — which, it’s been a long time — but I don’t know how you can [sound like] that.”

While Houser was candid in sharing his disbelief and confusion surrounding the whole situation, he was also quick to encourage Ingrid and others to “forgive and move on.”

“She must’ve been terribly tore up,” he expressed. “But, you know what? I know she can sing, she’s got a freakin’ record deal. It was just a brain fart moment and you know what? We just have to forgive her. She has to forgive herself, figure out her life and move on.”
