Romain Langasque dramatically exited The Open Championship at Royal Troon Golf Club mid-round, citing injury after a nightmare on the 8th hole.

Battling against 16 mph winds, Langasque's routine swing fell way short, with the ball landing in the fescue after traveling a mere 84 yards. He came up nowhere near the 120-yard par-3 target.

His subsequent second shot disastrously overshot the green. A visibly frustrated Langasque removed his hat, shook his head, and surrendered his club to his caddie.

He then exchanged handshakes with his team, audibly declaring, "I'm done," as he blamed back injuries for his withdrawal from the year's final major. The Frenchman's departure was marked by a disappointing +4 through eight holes.

Langasque's performance had been shaky, standing at 3-over par through seven holes before his abrupt withdrawal. Coming off a stellar -15 finish at the Genesis Scottish Open just the week prior, this was an unexpected turn for Langasque.

Meanwhile, Tiger Woods is soldiering on in the tournament despite battling ankle, back, and foot problems. This event marks his first shot at all four majors post his 2021 car accident. Despite his physical challenges, Woods is determined to continue contending for major championships.

His journey so far has seen him finish 60th at the Masters, but he missed the cut at both the PGA Championship and the U. S. Open. Woods' determination to battle through his physical limitations keeps fans on the edge of their seats, eagerly anticipating a comeback from one of golf's greatest icons.

Sebastian Soderberg also withdrew from the 152nd Open at the last minute because of a back and rib injury. The Royal Troon leaderboard is narrow after Justin Thomas took the early clubhouse lead at three-under-par while reigning champion Bryson DeChambeau struggled on the opening day at five-over and Rory McIlroy finished seven-over.

Joining Thomas at the top of the leaderboard in a thrilling second-place tie were Justin Rose, Alex Noren, Nicolai Hojgaard and Russell Henley with some big-hitters teeing off in the later groups.
