"Yard Bird Bandit" accused of stealing over 12K worth of chicken

A suspect known as "The Chicken Man" is accused of stealing thousands of dollars worth of the bird from grocery stores across the Carolinas.

The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office says they were contacted by the Store Manager at the Food Lion on Reidville Road, regarding the theft of chicken from there.

The manager told deputies he obtained security footage of a man obtaining chicken by fraudulent means in late June. The suspect reportedly came to the store and showed employees a cell phone screen shot of a bar code for some bad chicken and wanted to replace the packages.

His request was granted and he left with two packages of chicken worth of over 40 dollars. Food Lion Security personnel says the suspect has done the same at stores in North Carolina. He's said to have stolen over $12,000 worth of chicken in total.

The "Yard Bird Bandit" is described as a clean shaven, Hispanic male standing about 5ft 10 weighing about 165 pounds.
