Season 1 of the Polish comedy The Green Glove Gang presented viewers with three longtime friends who also just happened to be expert thieves. To get away from some heat, they go to a retirement home and live among their fellow seniors. In the second season, some of those seniors are now their friends and helpers, but the women in the gang feel like it’s time to hang up the gloves.

THE GREEN GLOVE GANG SEASON 2: STREAM IT OR SKIP IT?

Opening Shot: We hear a woman telling her friends that she has a recurring bad dream. Then we see a dreamscape of a jail cell door slamming shut.

The Gist: In Our Town, we see a Wanted sign for The Green Glove Gang being posted. Nearby, Commissioner Alfred (Miroslaw Zbrojewicz) is in a van, overseeing a SWAT team raid of what he thinks is a Green Glove Gang hideout. It turns out to be an apartment with a mom having dinner with her son, yet another time- and money-wasting raid that Alfred’s bosses are getting increasingly weary of.

The members of The Green Glove Gang — Zuzanna (Anna Romantowska), Kinga (Malgorzata Potocka) and Alicja (Magdalena Kuta) — are actually at their wooded hideaway with the people from the retirement home that helped them on their last heist. They’ve decided to hang it up as a team of thieves, and go their separate ways even as they remain friends. They even toss their signature green gloves into a bonfire.

But the next morning, as the three of them are about to fly off to different countries, Zuzanna gets a call from her son Tomek (Rafal Mackowiak); he’s in the hospital. She decides to go back to Our Town to see him, but tells Kinga and Alicja that she wants to do this on her own. They follow her, anyway, donning disguises to avoid detection.

Zuzanna finds out from Tomek that he owes a loan shark quite a bit of money, but that debt was purchased by notorious gangster Krzysztof Masaż (Krzysztof Tyniec). Kinga and Alicja catch up with Zuzanna and the they go with her to Masaż’ mansion. What Zuzanna, and eventually all three of them learn, is that Masaż wants them to steal a valuable statue called the Venus of Kazakhstan during the month that it’s in the National Gallery. If they can do it, Tomek’s debt is forgiven. If not, well, Tomek won’t have to worry about the debt, but for very dire reasons.

What Shows Will It Remind You Of? The second season of The Green Glove Gang feels less like a “seniors not acting their age” show, like it was during its first season, but more like a standard heist show like Money Heist .

Our Take: It really doesn’t matter what the ladies in The Green Glove Gang are doing, whether it’s stealing for themselves or if they’re contracted/threatened into doing their work by someone else. The show relies entirely on the friendship between Zuzzana, Kinga and Alicja, and the chemistry among the actors who play them is as strong as ever.

Let’s face it: The plot of the second season is pretty thin. It’s the “one last heist” trope married with the “commit a crime to save a loved one” trope, and it’s nothing we haven’t seen hundreds of times before. But if the show continues to plunge the depths of the history the women have with each other, it’ll still be entertaining to watch.

Of course, there are side stories, like Alfred’s endless pursuit of the gang, plus a man named Igor (Andrzej Grabowski) wanting to know about the gang’s every move. Now, the gang also has their group from the retirement home helping them out, and they’ll employ that group for the National Gallery heist.

Given that the episodes are about a half-hour each, we’re set to enjoy a breezily-paced heist story along with the history the women have with each other.

Sex and Skin: Nothing in the first episode.

Parting Shot: Alicja has her vision again as she spies green gloves in a shop window: The Green Glove Gang, all behind bars.

Sleeper Star: Karolina Rzepa plays Katarzyna Gujska, a police detective who is getting frustrated with Alfred’s futile efforts at catching the Green Glove Gang.

Most Pilot-y Line: “Do good deeds,” says a priest to one of the gang’s friends, who’s confessing to him that she ratted them out to Igor.

Our Call: STREAM IT. The Green Glove Gang continues to be entertaining because of the chemistry among its three stars. Let’s hope the heist story at the center of Season 2 doesn’t go sideways.
