    Deadline approaching to apply for FEMA assistance in these West Virginia counties

    VIDEO: West Virginia residents can apply for federal assistance after April storms, tornadoes


    CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) — Residents in 11 West Virginia counties have until Monday to apply for FEMA assistance if they were impacted by storms from April 2 to 6.

    According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, residents in Boone, Cabell, Fayette, Kanawha, Lincoln, Marshall, Nicholas, Ohio, Putnam, Wayne and Wetzel Counties can apply for aid.

    This assistance can help with temporary housing and home repairs, loans, and other programs to help people and businesses.

    More than $5 million has been approved for people in West Virginia who applied, according to a press release from FEMA.

    More than a dozen tornadoes hit the Tri-State region during the April 2-6 storms, according to the National Weather Service. After these storms, the NWS in Charleston updated their Natural Hazard Risk Assessment which named Kanawha County the most tornado prone in the region .
