Unprecedented Caitlin Clark Stat Proves WNBA Fumbled Player of the Week Award

    By Grant Young,

Caitlin Clark is fresh off a game where she set the WNBA record for assists in a game, with 19. She also added 24 points and 6 rebounds.

Prior to that, Clark dropped 17 points, 6 assists, and 3 rebounds against the Minnesota Lynx.

While that Lynx performance wasn't Clark's best, it says a lot that a bad game for the Fever rookie sensation right now still includes her scoring 17 points.

All of which is to say that Clark could very well have earned the Eastern Conference Player of the Week Award.

Instead, it was given to Liberty star guard Sabrina Ionescu.

While Ionescu had an excellent week, X account @StatMamba proved that Clark's POTW snub is literally unprecedented.

StatMamba posted on X Thursday, "Caitlin Clark is the first player in WNBA history to average 20+ PPG & 10+ APG and not get selected as Player of the Week".

This post (which already has 26,000 views in 30 minutes) goes to show that the Fever sensation probably should have received her first WNBA Player of the Week Award.

Although Clark is likely more upset about not securing a win against the Dallas Wings last night.
