Tonight : Mostly cloudy with scattered showers and storms. Some downpours are possible. Lows will be in the upper 60s to lower 70s.

Tomorrow : The cold front will stall over Central to South Alabama on Friday. This will set off more numerous showers and storms especially during the afternoon and evening. Some heavy rain and gusty winds will be possible. High temperatures will be below average as they only climb into the lower 80s.

Drought : The Drought Monitor came out today. Drought conditions are getting worse across Central Alabama. There is now an Extreme (D3) Drought across parts of Walker, Fayette, Marion & Lamar Counties. The rest of Central Alabama is Severe/Moderate/Abnormal. The forecast calls for 2-4″ of rain over the next 7 days. This will only put a dent in the drought. Ending the drought would take 12″ of rain in 1 Month.

Weekend Outlook : The cold front will stall across Central Alabama this weekend. Upper-level waves will move along the front, and that will keep wet weather in the forecast. Saturday will start dry but expect scattered showers and storms to fire up during the afternoon and evening. High temperatures will be in the middle 80s. The remnants of the front will continue to lift north on Sunday. It will be warm and humid with more scattered showers and storms. Rain will be heavy at times. High temperatures will be in the middle 80s. There is a Level 1 Marginal Risk for flash flooding each day this weekend.

Next Week Outlook : The warm and very humid unsettled weather pattern continues into next week. An upper-level low over the Plains States will send upper-level waves moving across Alabama each day. This will set off scattered showers and storms with heavy rain. We will have to watch out for possible flash flooding issues. Temperatures will stay below average with highs only getting into middle to upper 80s each day.
