Tropical cyclone formation is not expected to form in the next seven days in the Caribbean Sea or the Atlantic Ocean, providing a much needed break after Hurricane Beryl, weather experts say.

While the seas remain quiet for now, the National Weather Service is monitoring two tropical waves in the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea. No significant convection is attributed to the wave in the Atlantic at this time.

“Scattered moderate convection is from the coast of Panama north to 13N east of 81W to the coast of Colombia,” the NWS report said. “Scattered showers are noted along the south coast of Jamaica.”

In the Gulf of Mexico, high pressure is expected to cross from the western Atlantic to the northern Gulf of Mexico early next week.

“Unstable atmospheric conditions with active weather will persist across the northern Gulf through Friday,” the NWS report said.

Locally, the NWS Tampa Bay station’s report says Southwest Florida can expect thunderstorms to be confined to the coast due to a lack of sea breeze development.

Another patch of Saharan dust is expected to impact the area beginning Saturday.

“Dust tends to limit convective activity as the air becomes drier, but this has the tradeoff of potentially enhancing storms that do develop, allowing for elevated wind risk,” the NWS Tampa Bay report stated. “Questions still remain just how impactful dust could actually be.”
