Paige Bueckers Reveals True Feelings About Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese Rookie Of The Year Debate

The WNBA has a major problem looming this season, but in a way, it's a great problem to have.

Unlike in past years where the WNBA Rookie of the Year award has had a clear-cut winner with Aliyah Boston winning unanimously last year, Rhyne Howard received 94.6% of the votes the year prior, Michaela Onyenwere nabbed 95.9% of the votes before her, and Crystal Dangerfield racked up 93.6% of the votes in 2020. In fact, you have to go all the way back to 2019, when Napheesa Collier won with 67% of the votes, to find one that wasn't a landslide. To take it a step further, you have to go back all the way to 2015, when Jewell Llyod won with 53.8% of the vote, to find a time when voters were nearly split on the winner.

While the season is far from over as we are just hitting the All-Star/Olympic break, there is already a raging debate as to who will win the award this year. The two candidates happened to be rivals in college and have carried over that relationship into the WNBA. The oddsmakers over at FanDuel still heavily favor Caitlin Clark, as she has -2000 odds to Angel Reese's +700, but those around the sport don't share the sentiment that the two are separated by that much.

Someone who shares that sentiment is future WNBA star Paige Bueckers.

In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, Bueckers, along with fellow stars JuJu Watkins and Cooper Flagg, were asked who they picked to win the award. Flagg went with Clark, Watkins went with Reese, and Bueckers went with neither.

Actually, she was clearly torn by the question and essentially went with either or.

"I mean, you can't go wrong with Angel Reese or Caitlin [Clark]," Bueckers replied .

Both Clark and Reese are having historic seasons, and it will be a tough choice for the voters to decide when the end of the season rolls around. It is worth noting that Clark has been the overwhelming favorite nearly all season, as at one point, FanDuel had the odds as Clark or anyone else rather than an individual player.
