Tiger Woods score: Complete Round 2 results, highlights from 2024 British Open

Tiger Woods bowed out of the Open Championship after two tough days at Royal Troon.

Woods made his Open debut at Troon 27 years ago and he insisted he had no thoughts of retirement despite the brutal physical battles of recent times.

"I'll play as long as I can play and I feel like I can still win the event," Woods said before this year's championship.

His next bid for glory will have to wait at least 12 months after he carded +14 over from two rounds alongside Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay, who remain in the hunt for glory at the famous old lynx course over the coming weekend.

Woods made a strong start in his opening round Thursday in tricky windy conditions on the Scottish west coast, with a birdie on the par-three third, but a double bogey immediately followed as the 15-time major champion began to struggle.

Eventually, he reached the clubhouse on +8 after carding an opening round of 79 to leave him 15 strokes off the overnight lead.

The opening three holes on Friday felt like Woods' tournament in microcosm — tidily compiled pars on the first and third sandwiching a double-bogey at the second.

Tiger largely stemmed the bleeding from that point, his tournament effectively over. The highlight of his round came when he drained a wonderful 21-foot putt down the hill for birdie at the par-five sixth. Further bogeys would not deny Woods a wonderful ovation on the 18th, where he secured par and acknowledged the crowd before marching off, looking every inch a man who retains unfinished business.

Tiger Woods results, highlights from Round 2 at 2024 Open Championship

    (All times Eastern)

9:22 a.m. — The bracing wind ripples Woods' trousers and he knocks his final shot of the championship in for par. There can be no doubting his appetite for the competition out there, despite these two days becoming a bit of a sporting ordeal at times. A great reception but no huge fanfare. You'd better believe he'll be back.

9:14 a.m. — Can Tiger sign off in style with what will be his final hole of the tournament. He second shot skips along to the back of the green but that's not too shabby at all. A lovely ovation for Tiger from the grandstands as he walks up the fairway.

9:04 a.m — Wood can't make a 10-footer for par on the 17th and slips further back to 14 over.

8:55 a.m. — A big round of applause as Woods holds for par on the 16th despite finding the water off the tee. Great hustle from the three-time champion.

8:42 a.m. — Some serious power on show as Woods drags himself out of the rough and makes par on the 14th. He's really grafting out there.

8:14 a.m. — Woods drops a further shot off the lead after missing a putt within six feet on the par-three 14th.

7:55 a.m. — The 13th was Woods' one gain on the back nine yesterday. He starts off today by dragging the tee shot into the long grass — a recurring problem for many in this wind, including leader Shane Lowry. He leaves himself with a big old climb to the green, but that's a delightful chip, and the watching grandstand gives a cheer as he holes in four.

7:43 a.m. — You can see the wind rippling Woods' sweater as he tees off at the 12th. The drive is a little to the right, but he misses the worst of the rough. He then drops the approach plumb into the bunker off the left, and the frustration is clear to see.

7:14 a.m. — Super tee shot on the 11th avoids the worst of the divots. The breeze has really picked up now, so shots like that could be key. Tiger's approach just skirts the bunker, and the birdie putt is a lovely attempt that just fades to the left. Par it is, then.

7:12 a.m. — Just like yesterday, it's a par on the 10th for Woods. Now — can he make up a few strokes and get to 70 for the day?

6:49 a.m. — Woods' approach just fades left, but it doesn't look a bad lie. A birdie might be beyond him here, but getting to the turn at +1 is no bad effort given yesterday's difficulties. But... oh no: a six-footer misses comfortably to the right, and it's a bogey.

6:36 a.m. — Difficult birdie putt here for Woods, up the slope on the short par-three eighth hole. The distance is just too much. He makes par, though, despite the ball circling the drain a little longer than felt comfortable. If he can get to the back nine at evens, he'll consider this a decent morning.

6:20 a.m. — The wind has picked up a little now. Woods doesn't quite judge it right as he sends an iron to the back of the seventh green, where the ball steadfastly refuses to roll back towards the pin. It's a beautiful putt down the slope, though, and he'll mark par.

6:04 a.m. — Woods finds the rough but follows up with a magnificent approach that lands 21 feet from the pin. He rolls it down the slope.. and in! Vintage Tiger. That's what this crowd came to see.

5:48 a.m. — Just as yesterday Woods finds the bunker on the par-three fifth, but it's a much better lie. He takes a face full of sand as he chips to the green, but this is a tricky putt for par. It's a lovely stroke, but the ball just won't go in.

5:23 a.m. — Another par as Woods smartly navigates the fourth. The score might suggest otherwise, but this has been a solid start to his second round.

5:04 a.m. — A lovely tee shot puts Woods 141 yards from the pin. The approach wasn't the best, but this putt is makeable. How he'd love to roll this one in... not quite. But it's another par, and he played that hole nicely.

4:51 a.m. — A difficult chip right through the gap between two bunkers flies long, and Woods can't rescue it with the first putt. It's a double bogey on the second, and he drops to 10 over as the rain falls a little harder.

4:35 a.m. — It's a par to start, a long putt with perfect length just avoiding the left of the hole.

4:25 a.m. — Tiger on the tee... and it's plumb on the fairway. Great start. Xander Schauffele finds almost exactly the same length; Patrick Cantlay is a little shorter. The wind seems to be much easier out there.

4:21 a.m. — There's a warm round of applause as Woods makes his way up the steps to the first tee.

4:10 a.m. — Woods has just been pictured out practicing ahead of this morning's start. He had a big smile on his face as he went through the motions with a wedge. It's a good sign.

3:51 a.m. — It was a tough watch for Tiger at times on Thursday, although the appalling moment that a British announcer speculated he was taking painkillers took many of the headlines. But the first groups this morning have enjoyed far more favorable conditions, and Tiger may well be relishing the chance to get back out there. He's due to tee off in a little over half an hour.

3:30 a.m. — Plenty of golfers, Woods and Rory McIlroy chief among them, struggled with the conditions yesterday. The weather's looking a little brighter today, though.

Will Tiger Woods make the cut?

The cut line is projected at +3 after Thursday's opening round , so it would take a remarkable performance on Friday for Woods to make it.

After reaching the turn at +11, he is almost certain not to be playing this weekend.

    Tiger Woods tee time today

Woods will tee off at 4:25 a.m. ET Friday, along with Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele.
