Daily showers, thunderstorms expected over next week

An upper-level trough will remain in place over Southwest Louisiana for the next several days, helping to aid in daily showers and thunderstorms.

But the good news is temperatures are trending cooler — especially for the last week of July.

National Weather Service Lake Charles Storm Warning Coordinator Doug Cramer said pockets of excessive rainfall cannot be ruled out in areas that experience repeated or training thunderstorms.

“There is between a 10 and 40 percent chance for at least 2 inches of rain across most of southeast Texas and much of southern Louisiana,” Kramer said. “Excessive rainfall could lead to flash flooding. River and bayou flooding could also occur.”

Widespread average rainfall amounts over the next seven days are expected to range from 3 to 8 inches.

“Isolated amounts of over 10 inches could occur in a few areas that receive repeated or training thunderstorms over the next seven days,” Kramer said.

Temperatures are expected in the mid- to late-80s through the weekend.

Chances favor below-normal summer temperatures in Southwest Louisiana through at least July 28.
