The 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix will take place on Sunday, the first race of a two-week stretch of Formula 1 action before a month-long hiatus begins. The lights will go out at 9 a.m. ET and Mercedes will try to continue its momentum after scoring back-to-back wins at the Austrian Grand Prix and the British Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton ended a career-long 61-race winless drought with a victory at Silverstone last week, while George Russell was the victor in Austria.
Now both Hamilton and Russell are priced at +800 in the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix odds as Mercedes looks to make it three in a row. Meanwhile, three-time defending champion and current points leader Max Verstappen is the -110 favorite (bet $110 to win $100) in the F1 odds, while McLaren's Lando Norris is +320 with his team also showing improved racing form over the last two months. Before analyzing the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix starting grid and making any Formula 1 picks, be sure to check out the latest 2024 Hungarian GP predictions and betting advice from SportsLine's proven projection model .
Developed by daily Fantasy pro and SportsLine predictive data engineer Mike McClure, this proprietary Formula 1 prediction model simulates every race 10,000 times, taking into account factors such as track history and recent results. It's had a strong history of success in motorsports, correctly predicting 19 NASCAR winners since the 2021 season and its projected leaderboards have forecasted winners across multiple racing formats.
The model has been scorching hot when it comes to picking Formula 1 race events dating back to 2021. It nailed both of Charles Leclerc's wins in 2022, and at the 2021 Mexican Grand Prix, the model was strongly backing Verstappen as its top pick. The result: Verstappen dominated the field and ran away with a surprise victory.
The model followed that up by calling Verstappen's win at the Rolex Emilia Romagna GP in April and then nailed his wins again in Belgium, the Netherlands, Japan, the United States, Mexico and Abu Dhabi. It also nailed all 19 of Verstappen's wins during the 2023 season and then called all seven of the three-time defending champion's wins so far in the 2024 season. Anyone who followed the model's lead on those plays has seen huge returns.

One surprise: The model is fading George Russell, predicting that he barely cracks the top five despite going off as one of the top favorites. After the victory in Austria, Russell won the pole at Silverstone last week and looked poised to become the first back-to-back winner besides Verstappen and Hamilton since Charles Leclerc in 2019.
However, Russell slipped back in the field because of pit strategy when the rain began to fall and was eventually retired on Lap 34 because of a suspected water system issue. Russell only has one podium finish outside of his victory this season and, even with Mercedes' renewed optimism, it's hard to back him as one of the favorites with only one podium finish in five career Hungarian Grand Prix starts.
