How much would you expect to pay for an extra egg on the side of your breakfast?

Alyssa Jayne from Australia claims she had to fork out $6 [$4.00 USD] for a single egg at a cafe recently after she realized the $13 [$9.00 USD] ‘eggs your way’ she ordered only came with one egg but two slices of toast.

Here’s how much it costs to own a 0.17-acre empty lot in a ritzy Wyoming hideout

“Does anyone know, broken down, how much it costs a cafe when someone adds an extra egg, like how much that extra egg would cost them, because why the f–k is it costing us $6?” she said in a TikTok rant that now has over 93k views.

“$6?! No, no, no, no. I am not spending $6 on one single poached egg,” she continued.

“I understand you want to profit, but surely that is like daylight robbery.”

These are the world’s most ‘impossibly unaffordable’ cities—and 5 of them are in the U.S.

Alyssa then pointed out that you can buy a 12-pack of eggs from Coles for around $5 or $6, so paying the same amount for an egg at a cafe was “criminal”, in her opinion.

Many Aussies were outraged by the fee, sharing their own experiences and pointing out other charges that didn’t make sense.

“And when I ask to remove the poached egg from my Caesar salad, is the salad not $6 cheaper??” someone asked.

“They’re charging $6 to add avo now. I already had to take out the bacon and cheese from my meal but you didn’t minus those from the price,” a second shared.

Someone else made the point: “Poached eggs should always be two eggs. Was the menu item called ‘poached egg’.”

“When I go out for breakfast, I get eggs, Benny, but I always want to add a tomato, avo and a hash brown, but then I remember that would cost $16, and that’s criminal,” another cafe-goer revealed.

However, others defended cafes, saying that it wasn’t just to cover the cost of ingredients but all overheads.
