In a video clip circulating getting social media reactions, Melania Trump appears to then lean away in favor of a hug.
"YIKES!" wrote one X, formerly Twitter, user and Democrat.
Trump earlier that evening had formally accepted the party's nomination as the official Republican presidential nominee. Thursday was Melania's first and only appearance at the convention, unlike Trump who attended all four days.

Their awkward moment is in stark contrast to other convention couples, including Trump's own running mate and Ohio Sen. JD Vance, who could be seen hand-in-hand with wife Usha Vance throughout the week in Milwaukee.
And it was far from the passionate kiss between then-Democratic nominee Al Gore and wife Tipper at the 2000 Democratic National Convention. The Gores divorced in 2010.
