Liverpool fans react after Arne Slot's side lose behind-closed-doors friendly

Liverpool got its pre-season off to a losing start, falling 1-0 to Championship side Preston North End in Kirkby .

In what was Arne Slot's first game in charge of the Reds , albeit a friendly, Republic of Ireland winger Robbie Brady scored the only goal of the game. While the result of the game isn't important, Slot did manage to get 25 of his squad minutes ahead of Liverpool's tour to the USA.

And whilst there, Liverpool will face off against much tougher opponents in the form of Real Betis, Arsenal, and Manchester United. They will then return home to take on Sevilla at Anfield , a week before they travel to Portman Road to face Ipswich Town in their Premier League opener on August 17.

While the result of the contest should be no cause for concern, that did not stop Reds supporters from giving their take on the clash at the AXA Training Centre on social media.

One fan wrote: "I’m sure the transfer weirdos will take this news very well and won’t overreact in any way." A second, who posted a screenshot of poor Liverpool pre-season results added: "Before people choose to overreact we are always bad in pre-season. This is only to name a few games."

A third said: "Embarrassing, we better sign players after this." A fourth commented: "Have a feeling this will be an absolutely horrendous season under slot." And a fifth said: "And we were laughing at United."

However, what will be a cause for concern for Slot will be the sheer number of first team players he won't get much time to work with following their holidays due to playing in either the European Championships or the Copa America.

Trent Alexander-Arnold , Joe Gomez , Alexis Mac Allister and Luis Diaz all reached a final, while Darwin Nunez played in a bronze medal match a day later and will miss the tour to the US. Dutch trio Virgil van Dijk , Cody Gakpo , Ryan Gravenberch and France's Ibrahima Konate all made the semifinals of Euro 2024, but also seem likely to miss the tour to the US, leaving Slot with a potential headache.
