Chelsea spark transfer talk with Lesley Ugochukwu decision

Chelsea have sparked transfer speculation over Lesley Ugochukwu after recalling the midfielder from France ’s squad for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The 20-year-old made 15 appearances for the Blues last season but has this summer been linked with a move away.

Ugochukwu was set to be on reserve for the young French squad in Paris, named by head coach Thierry Henry on a four-man standby list ahead of France’s first game next Wednesday against the United States.

But Chelsea have on Friday decided to withdraw the player from contention.

The French Football Federation announced: “Lesley Ugochukwu leaves the Olympic selection. The midfielder is leaving the French Olympic Team this Friday, July 19, and will not be among the reserves for the Paris 2024 Olympic tournament.

“Following a request from Chelsea FC, Lesley Ugochukwu will permanently leave the French Olympic football team and will no longer be available as a reserve.”

Chelsea are understood to be assessing a number of loan options for the youngster, and hope to send him to a Premier League club.
