WEIRTON, W.Va. (WTRF) — A fire is out at a Weirton shopping plaza after a truck hit a utility wire.

Pictures on social media showed black smoke pouring out from behind the plaza off Three Springs Drive this afternoon.

Crews received a call that a fire had started behind the Busy Beaver.

Weirton Fire Captain Adam Mills says they arrived to find that live wires on a utility pole had sparked oil inside a transformer.

They say that while from the front it looked like the building was involved, it was actually a delivery truck accident behind the store.

“The truck, actually, when they were pulling out of the dock, struck the wires and then the pole snapped. Nobody actually hit the pole, it just was from hitting the wires, pulled the pole down.”

No one was injured in the fire.

Mon Power was located nearby and arrived on scene quickly.

Its map shows fewer than 20 customers without power as of Friday afternoon.
