Tiger Woods will not be playing the weekend at the 2024 Open Championship after finishing his first two rounds at Royal Troon at 14-over par, well above the projected cutline of six-over.

It's the third straight missed cut at a major for Woods, who last played the weekend at a major championship at the 2024 Masters.

Woods, 48, now intends to take a few months off from competitive golf. He told media members after Friday's round in Scotland that his next start won't come until December at The Hero World Challenge.

"Tiger says we won’t see him playing again until the Hero. Wants to keep getting better in gym until then," Barstool Sports' Dan Rapaport posted on X.

While technically part of the PGA Tour schedule, The Hero World Challenge is an unofficial event and does not offer FedEx Cup points.

Hosted by Woods and a benefit for the Tiger Woods Foundation, the Hero has been played since 2000. Current world No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler won the event in 2023.

The 2024 Hero World Challenge is scheduled for Dec. 2-8 and will be played at Albany's championship golf course in the Bahamas.
