Uncover, a Kenya-based skincare company dedicated to empowering individuals with melanated skin, has secured $1.4 million in new funding to drive its growth and expansion.

Launched in 2021 by co-founders Sneha Mehta and Jade Oyateru, the company has quickly gained traction in Africa and the diaspora.

Uncover provides personalized skincare solutions through interactive quizzes and features on its website, tailoring routines to the specific needs of its users.

The company has amassed a digital following of over 200,000 women across Kenya, Nigeria, and the diaspora, and has recently expanded its reach to Ghana and Uganda. Its products are available both on its e-commerce platform and in major retail stores in Kenya and Nigeria.

The company’s mission is to address a gap in the market where international skincare products often overlook the unique needs of African women. As stated on their website:

“Our shelves are filled with international products that are simply a geographical expansion strategy, with little thought on tailoring products to women in Africa. We are on a mission to change that, to make Africa a priority and not an afterthought. We hear you, we see you and we value you and we are specifically making skincare with U in mind.”

Uncover’s innovative approach has sparked significant interest, with revenue increasing more than tenfold over the past two years.

The recent funding round, led by EQ2 Ventures and IgniteXL Ventures, with participation from Chui Ventures, Samata Capital, and Altree Capital, will support the company’s continued expansion into new markets.

Jade Oyateru, the company’s COO, expressed enthusiasm about the investment:

“We are delighted to partner with a remarkable group of investors who share our vision for the future of women’s skincare and wellness, both on the continent and beyond.”

CEO Sneha Mehta highlighted Uncover’s commitment to prioritizing African women in their testing and development:

“We’re proud to be among the first to prioritize testing on African women. We’re thrilled to be starting in Africa, but the potential for our solution is clearly global.”

Uncover’s growth and innovative approach to skincare sets the stage for its future success in the global market.
