Vigo Co. Solid Waste Management suspends free furniture disposal

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – The Vigo County Solid Waste Management facility will no longer accept furniture Monday through Wednesday.

Its executive director Karrum Nasser said the facility found out that there were people charging residents to take their furniture to this site. He said that in those cases businesses have to take them to the landfill instead.

Nasser said it is always a shame to get rid of something that is a need for the county.

“Since we started this, we have collected 13 tons worth of furniture, so we know that there is a demand for that, but we can’t let commercial businesses take advantage of it,” he said.

Although it is suspended, residents will still have an opportunity to dispose of their unwanted furniture during their monthly county cleanup day on the first Saturday of each month.
