Beneficial rain continues through the weekend

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The workweek ended with humid conditions, lower temperatures, and tropical downpours across the Tennesse Valley.
Heading into the upcoming weekend, the threat of both showers and storms is forecast to continue.
The boundary that was positioned over the region Friday will remain in place Saturday.
With the position of the low pressure and boundary deep tropical moisture will continue to flow into the region from the Gulf Of Mexico. This will support dew point values in the 70s, supporting not only the rain threat but also the humid conditions.
Rain chances will continue Friday night into Saturday morning before there is a brief lull in precipitation by mid-morning. That will be short-lived as scattered showers and isolated storms will redevelop by the afternoon, moving southwest towards the northeast.
Shortly after sunset on Saturday, any activity will quickly dissipate. Showers and storms will begin to fire back up late Sunday morning and continue through the evening hours.
The main impacts from storms will be tropical-like downpours, strong winds over 40 mph, and frequent lightning. While the threat of severe weather is low this weekend a strong storm can’t be completely ruled out.
Rain totals this weekend will range from 1.00 to 1.50 inches with isolated higher amounts possible. Ponding on roads is likely, if you come across a flooded roadway turn around and find an alternate route.

The Thursday drought monitor update brought extreme drought conditions to parts of Limestone, Madison, Lauderdale, and Lincoln counties. Counties highlighted in orange continue to experience severe drought conditions while those in beige are experiencing a moderate drought.
Due to the sporadic nature of summertime thunderstorms, many of these areas have had little to no rainfall over the past week.
The rain we’ll continue to see through the weekend will be very beneficial for the area. That being said, it’s important to remember, to much rain at once can also lead to problems. Localized flash flooding in low-lying areas and locations that have seen heavy rain in previous days will need to be monitored.
