MERCED COUNTY, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – AT&T and Xfinity services have been interrupted as a result of a solo crash involving a truck in Merced County, the California Highway Patrol said.

CHP says a tractor-trailer traveling eastbound attempted to make a right turn from Highway 140 to southbound Thornton Road in Merced County.

Officers say the tractor-trailer was unable to stop in time, causing the trailer of the vehicle to hit and sever a communication pole. As a result, a second pole was also severed, and the downed communication lines struck a stopped vehicle on Thornton Road at Highway 140.

According to CHP, the following services are affected:

    • AT&T: Lan lines and cell towers will be affected for around seven to eight hours.
    • Xfinity: Internet, TV, Telephone, and security services will be affected for around nine to 10 hours.

Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area and use alternate routes if possible while crews work to restore services and clear the roadway.
