Unexpected Golfer Currently Holds Longest Streak of Made Cuts at Major Championships

If you were to ask the average golf fan which PGA Tour player holds the longest current streak of made cuts at majors, you'd likely receive a few potential guesses.

Is it World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler? Xander Schauffele, perhaps?

How about names like Collin Morikawa or Patrick Cantlay?

It's actually none of the above.

After posting a 1-over par 72 in the second round of the 2024 Open Championship (+5 overall), Hideki Matsuyama is now the only golfer to make the cut in every major in each of the last three years.

He's made the weekend at 18 straight major tournaments.

"Matsuyama the only player to make the cut in every major each of the last three years," AP Golf writer Doug Ferguson reported Friday.

The 2021 Masters Champion, Matsuyama hasn't faced an early exit at a major championship since missing the cut at the 2019 Open Championship.

Since then, he's gone on to record two top-tens and seven top-20 finishes in majors in addition to securing his first Green Jacket in 2021.

He also finished in sixth place at June's U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2.

At +5 overall and T54 heading into the third round of The Open, Matsuyama will look to post a low number early on Saturday to creep up the leaderboard.
