SMC sheriff deputies were conducting routine stops on Middlefield Road and Sixth Avenue when they noticed a car committing a traffic violation. Deputies performed a traffic stop and discovered the suspect driver, Robert W. Lloyd, 51, was driving with a suspended license.

Deputies then further investigated the situation by deploying a narcotic-detecting K-9 to search the car. Officials said the K9, named Wasco, recovered “a stolen gun and narcotics” from the passenger beside Lloyd, 31-year-old Vincent M. Salinas.

Later investigations also showed the gun found by Wasco was stolen.

SMCSO officials said Salinas was later arrested and booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility on the following charges:

    • Carry a concealed weapon in a vehicle
    • Carry a concealed stolen weapon
    • Carry a loaded firearm in public
    • Possession of a controlled substance with a firearm

Lloyd was cited and released from the scene.
