The Open 2024 LIVE: Golf leaderboard and scores as Xander Schauffele leads Thriston Lawrence and Justin Rose

Justin Rose put himself into position to win The Open Championship at Troon after making an excellent start to the final round, but Xander Schauffele has taken charge of a dramatic conclusion to move ahead of overnight leader Billy Horschel and South Africa’s Thriston Lawrence.

Rose, who shot to prominence at the 1998 Open at Royal Birkdale as the leading amateur, is bidding to win the Claret Jug for the first time and made three birdies to reach the back nine at -6 overall. But the 43-year-old dropped his first shot of the round at the 12th, as Schauffele birdied the 11th, 13th and 14th to move clear.

Earlier, 2019 Open champion Shane Lowry fired himself into contention while Jon Rahm was the early mover but the Spaniard’s hot start faded and he finished -1. England’s major debutant Dan Brown dropped away on the front nine, after leading the Open heading up the 18th last night before carding a double bogey on the final hole.
