Overnight leader Shane Lowry has slipped back amongst the chasing pack at The 152nd Open after dropping shots in the rain on Saturday.

Lowry led on seven under par after two rounds , two shots clear of Justin Rose and debutant Daniel Brown, but fell back in round three after a double bogey on the infamous par-three eighth hole, the Postage Stamp, having found a greenside bunker with his tee shot.

The early starters on Saturday took advantage of more benign weather as South Korea’s Si Woo Kim made a hole-in-one on the 17th – the first player ever to do so on the 238-yard par three in 10 Open Championships at Royal Troon – and South Africa’s Thirston Lawrence recorded a flurry of birdies to shoot an impressive 65.

American Billy Horschel and Xander Schauffele are in contention while English duo Rose and Brown remain near the top of the leaderboard.
