New York State Police are investigating a two-car, head-on collision that killed three people late Friday afternoon on I-86 in the Town of Chemung.

State Police responded to the crash around 4:51 p.m. According to the preliminary investigation, a 2018 Nissan Maxima driven by a 36-year-old man was traveling westbound on I-86 when it crossed over the median and struck a 2015 Accura RDX traveling eastbound. The Accura had two occupants, an 18-year-old male operator and a 44-year-old female passenger, police said.

All three people involved in the crash were pronounced dead at the scene.

State Police later identified the driver of the Acura as 18-year-old Colin J. Ferrell, of Endicott, and the driver of the Maxima as Steven A. Mallory, 36, of Horseheads. A GoFundMe page set up for Ferrell identified the third victim as his mother, 44-year-old Tiffany Ferrell.
