BOSTON (WWLP) – The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) announced that there are no motor vehicle inspections taking place on Saturday due to the global outage on Friday.

Flights impacted at Bradley due to the IT outage

MassDOT stated that the global outage on Friday impacted the use of some technology, so the Registry is continuing to coordinate with its vendor, OPUS, and inspection sites to remedy the issues.

A massive IT outage affected millions of computers and workstations across the globe and caused blue screen errors to appear across multiple locations, including retailers, banks, and airlines. Additionally, it was mostly likely caused by human error or improper testing of the update pushed.

CrowdStrike reported that this was not a cyberattack but rather an oversight of the organization’s content development team. Although the incident does not appear to be rooted in malicious intent, hackers could still be trying to disrupt systems.

The effect on the Commonwealth was less severe and more limited to things like the Registry of Motor Vehicles customer service appointments, courtroom operations, and MBTA bus or train arrival time data.
