According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, at approximately 11:00 p.m., a motorcycle carrying two individuals (a driver and a passenger) was traveling northbound on County Road 4 (approximately four miles east of Bathgate) when a deer came out of the ditch and onto the roadway, where it was struck by the motorcycle.

The motorcycle’s passenger — a 43-year-old woman from Hamilton — was thrown from the vehicle during this collision and died as a result of her injuries on-scene. A release from the NDHP says that neither she nor the driver were wearing helmets at the time.

The driver of the motorcycle (a 43-year-old man from Cavalier) entered the east ditch after striking the deer, where he became trapped under the vehicle upon its final rest. He sustained serious injuries in the accident, and was transported to Pembina County Memorial Hospital for treatment. He is currently facing charges of Driving Under Revocation and Driving Without Liability Insurance.
