SCRAPS experiencing 'overflow' of pets looking for homes

SPOKANE, Wash. - At the start of the week, Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Services said it was in a panic after it experienced an influx of animals coming in.

Shelter operations manager Nick Hobbes Doyle said these last few days have been the busiest they have seen all month. He said the overflow of pets coming on Monday was stressful.

"Every one of my kennels was completely full and had a dog or a cat living in it," Hobbes explained. "That made life really difficult for animal enforcement, we have to have the availability to perform our services to the county."

For the past week, the price to adopt a dog went down from around $100 to $28. The price for a cat went from around $40 to $18. The only fee left to pay was licensing.

Saturday is the last day SCRAPS is waiving adoption fees. They are open until 5 p.m.

The shelter said it is always looking for foster families to help and give furry friends the warmth of a home.
