2024 Cardinals roster preview: DL Dante Stills

The Arizona Cardinals will open training camp July 23 and begin the process of preparing for the regular season, forming the roster and determining starting jobs and roles on the team.

Leading up to the start of camp, we will take a look at every player on the offseason roster, their background, their contract, their play in 2023, questions they face and their roster outlook.

Next up is defensive lineman Dante Stills.

Background

NFL bloodlines run deep in Stills. His father Gary was a safety for 10 seasons (1999-2008) with the Chiefs, Ravens and Rams. His uncle Ken was a safety for six seasons (1985-90) with the Packers and Vikings. And his cousin Kenny was a wide receiver for nine seasons (2013-21) with the Saints, Dolphins, Texans and Bills. After playing five seasons at West Virginia, where his brother Darius was a teammate, Dante was selected in the sixth round (213th overall of the 2023 draft by the Cardinals. He was inactive for the season opener, but got an opportunity when L.J. Collier was injured in Week 1. Stills played in 15 games and started eight, but was placed on injured reserve for the final game of the season because of a knee injury.

2023 stats

In 15 games, Stills played 533 (54 percent) of the defensive snaps and also played 68 snaps on special teams. He was seventh on the team with 47 tackles (18 solos) and had five tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks for 25 yards lost, five quarterback hits and one fumble recovery.

2024 contract details, cap hit

In the second year of a four-year contract, Stills’ salary this year is $915,000 and he counts $948,333 against the salary cap.

Questions he faces

Stills showed he is deserving of playing time, but the question is how much he’ll get following the selection of Darius Robinson in the first round of the draft and the return of Collier.

2024 roster outlook

Even with the offseason additions to the line, Stills is expected to win a roster spot and be a consistent part of the rotation.
