After the U.S. men's basketball team avoided what would have been a historic upset against South Sudan, Anthony Edwards had a two-word reply on the key to the game.

    "LeBron James," he said .

James drove for the game-winning layup with eight seconds remaining to give Team USA a 101-100 victory over a scrappy South Sudan team. Team USA clawed back after trailing by as many as 16 points, holding off a team from the war-torn African country set to make its Olympic debut in Paris later this month.

James played a big role in avoiding what would have been one of the biggest international upsets of all time, scoring 25 points and making a number of key plays during a 25-3 run to pull Team USA back into the game.

After the game, a reporter asked Edwards what he saw as the most important aspect of the win.

"Pretty much just LeBron," Edwards said.

Though Saturday's game was just a warm-up for the Olympics, Team USA coach Steve Kerr said it was an important test for the American team.

"I did not do a great job preparing our team, I think we did not focus enough on what they're capable of and that's on me," Kerr said, via ESPN .

"They played a wonderful game and the ending was good for us just to feel that. To feel what it's going to be like in Paris and Lille. ... A good reminder that when we play against teams, it's the biggest game of their lives and we have to expect everyone to play like that."
