Team USA was able to squeeze out a win in an Olympic warm-up game against South Sudan on Saturday, but head coach Steve Kerr was unable to escape the wrath of the internet.

The head coach came under fire after the team needed a last-second layup from LeBron James to earn a 101-100 victory against a team about to make its Olympic debut. Team USA trailed by as much as 16 points early in the game before James helped key a second-half run.

After the game, many took to social media to share criticism of Kerr for the team's lack of preparedness.

"Fire Steve Kerr. Never let him coach team USA ever again," one person shared on X .

Others suggested that Kerr's stature as an all-time great NBA coach has been inflated by the all-time great players he has coached.

"Steph Curry going up a few spots in my all-time list for winning 4 rings with Steve Kerr. That guy is a horrible coach," another fan shared on X .

Kerr didn't mince words after the game, putting the blame on himself for not properly preparing the team.

"First of all, South Sudan was amazing," Kerr said , adding, "I did not do a great job preparing our team. I think we did not focus enough on what they're capable of, and that's on me. That really allowed South Sudan to gain confidence early."

Kerr went on to say that the stakes will be even higher when the Paris Olympics start, pointing out that every team they face will be geared up to take on the United States.
