SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Elon Musk has announced the relocation of both SpaceX and X (formerly Twitter) headquarters from California to Texas. This decision comes in response to a controversial new law signed by Governor Gavin Newsom on Monday, which bars school districts from requiring staff to inform parents about their child's gender identity changes.

Musk criticized the new legislation, describing it as the “final straw” in a series of regulatory conflicts with California officials. The law, which aims to protect LGBTQ+ students by preventing the disclosure of their gender identity or sexual orientation without their consent, has sparked significant debate. Proponents argue that it safeguards students from potentially hostile home environments, while opponents believe it undermines parental transparency.

In his announcement, Musk stated, “Because of this law and the many others that preceded it, attacking both families and companies, SpaceX will now move its HQ from Hawthorne, California, to Starbase, Texas.” He also confirmed that X’s headquarters will shift from San Francisco to Austin, Texas.

Musk has previously relocated Tesla’s headquarters to Austin in 2021 and moved his personal residence to Texas as well, citing the state’s lack of personal income tax as a contributing factor.

Musk’s decision underscores ongoing tensions between the tech mogul and California's regulatory landscape, further illustrating the shifting dynamics in the tech industry.
