One person is dead and a second person was seriously injured in an ATV crash that appears to have involved alcohol, police said.

The crash was reported at about 8:30 a.m. on July 20 at the Tigerton OHV Park and Campground in Shawano County. Police Chief Michael Weatherwax said an employee found the two victims and CPR was in progress when rescue crews arrived on scene.

Police say the driver of the ATV, which was unregistered and was designed for only one person, struck a tree. One person was airlifted from the scene, while the other was transported via ambulance.

Neither of the victims was wearing a helmet. Their names and ages have not been released at this time.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, which handles ATV crashes, is spearheading the investigation.

    This is a developing story.

The Pilot often relies on reports from police officials in control of a crime, fire or crash scene during a breaking news event. While these initial reports are valuable to readers, they also can be incomplete and even inaccurate. We let readers know what we can and can’t confirm, as well as when and how we received our information. Then we work to aggressively gather a wider range of perspectives and to verify the information through public records, interviews, photos and videos, all of which are verified before publishing.
