‘Unity?’ ABC’s Martha Raddatz Confronts Speaker Johnson With New Clips of Trump Trashing His Rivals as ‘Sick, Weak, Pathetic’ and ‘Crazy’

ABC’s Martha Raddatz confronted House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) Sunday about former President Donald Trump attacking his political rivals despite calling for unity following the assassination attempt against him on July 13.

At the outset of a tenuous interview on ABC’s This Week , Raddatz played a supercut of Trump criticizing President Joe Biden , Vice President Kamala Harris , and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi at a rally in Michigan Saturday night.

“I call her Laughin’ Kamala,” Trump said. “You ever watch her laugh? She’s crazy. She’s nuts. She’s not as crazy as Nancy Pelosi. Crazy Nancy.

He added, “These are Biden indictments … a sick, weak, pathetic man who can’t run an election. So he indicts his opponent, thinking that’s going to win… This stupid president that we have. Stupid. He’s a stupid person.”

Raddatz, coming out of the clip, asked Johnson, “Has he missed an opportunity to promote unity?”

“No, he hasn’t” Johnson replied. “There’s campaign rhetoric on both sides.”

Johnson then referenced Biden recently saying “time to put Trump in a bullseye” — rhetoric which Biden said was “a mistake” in an NBC interview Monday — in an effort to draw an equivalence between the two candidates.

“We are in the midst of a heated campaign,” Johnson said. “And it’s beyond dispute that President Trump has been the the most attacked and maligned public figure in the history of the country.”

“But you yourself said that the discourse should not be personal or targeting people,” Raddatz said. “Have you just changed your mind? Is this now the campaign you want?”

“Look, I articulate things in a certain way, and Donald Trump does as well,” Johnson replied. “But his grievances … are because he has been the subject of so many attacks.”
