Simone Biles is learning to let go of the worries she once carried about her appearance.

The U.S. Olympic gymnast opened up ahead of her trip to the Paris Olympics, confessing that she used to pay too much attention to her appearance while competing. In an interview with Elle , Biles said she was especially worried about the look of her hair before learning to embrace it.

"I used to worry about [my hair being considered] not professional… but I'm not embarrassed about it anymore," Biles said, adding that she never learned how to do her own hair and "always went to the professionals" to have it done.

Biles added that it took her a while to feel comfortable, but now has come to "love" it.

“I’m finally learning to love my hair and the texture that I have and the styles that I can do,” Biles says.

As Biles and her U.S. Olympic teammates head to Paris, the focus will be on practicality rather than style. Biles said she will choose a hair style that is easier to maintain, knowing that she will be on her own in Paris.
