A California Highway Patrol dog helped locate about 70 pounds of suspected methamphetamine earlier this month in Napa County, authorities said.

On July 11, a CHP officer pulled over a vehicle that was following another car too closely on Highway 29, CHP-Golden Gate Division said Saturday in a news release.

During the stop, K-9 Champ searched the vehicle and immediately alerted his handler that drugs were present.

The officer detained the people in the vehicle and found the suspected meth, which has a street value of about $250,000, officials said.

    Those arrested were not identified.

    The CHP is still investigating.
