NORTH DAKOTA ( KXNET ) — In a statement on X , President Joe Biden announced that he would “stand down” and drop out of the 2024 presidential election — a decision he states is in the best interest of the Democratic party and the country. Now, leaders in North Dakota are taking the time to say their peace on this controversial choice.

Below is a list of ND political and government officials who have issued formal messages regarding Biden’s resignation from the next presidential race, as well as the contents of these statements.

(This article will be updated as more statements become available.)

Adam Goldwyn (North Dakota Democratic-NPL Party Chair)

“President Biden has been one of the most impactful leaders of my lifetime. With the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, Biden made the biggest investment in infrastructure since President Eisenhower. The Biden-Harris Administration saw manufacturing jobs return to the United States with the CHIPS and Science Act. The Inflation Reduction Act lowered health care costs, strengthened American energy security, and it is the most ambitious investment in combating the climate crisis in world history.

For a half-century, through personal and political triumphs and setbacks, President Biden has done what he believes is best for our country and our world. Like George Washington, President Biden becomes one of very few American Presidents to voluntarily cede power in pursuit of the greater good. President Biden ran on the campaign slogan to ‘finish the job,’ and now we honor his sacrifice and secure his legacy and our future greatness by electing whoever emerges as the Democratic nominee for President.”

Julie Fedorchak (Republican Candidate for Congress)

“Democrats can change the candidate at the top of their ticket, but that doesn’t change their terrible policies that have failed America. Their policies have created crushing inflation, regulations that are strangling businesses, borders in chaos, and Americans feeling unsafe in their own communities. And now Democrats are adding to the chaos by circumventing voters and controlling their political power. This is not the haphazard leadership America needs right now. And, if Joe Biden is unfit to seek reelection, he is unable to effectively lead our country and should resign the presidency.”
